Sunday 5/19 Song of Songs Seder Celebrating Queer Sexuality

Sunday 5/19
Song of Songs Seder Celebrating Queer Sexuality @ Urban Adamah
Brought to you by JeWitch Collective and The Aquarian Minyan
Location: Urban Adamah
2pm - 6pm

Kick off Pride season and conjure a magick spell on May 19th with the National Queer Arts Festival’s JeWitchy event celebrating queer sexuality. We’ll queer the ancient erotic biblical poem: Song of Songs as we journey through Urban Adamah’s lush gardens. Jewlia Eisenberg, Bruce Bierman, and Bandelion (a part of Dandelion dancetheater) help lead this highly participatory joyful, embodied, and empowering ritual filled with ecstatic dance, and singing.

The festive gathering is synced with Pride month as well as with Pesach Sheni, the “Second Passover”, a holiday symbolizing “second chances” which inspired the LGBTQ community in Israel and, more recently, the United States, to celebrate it as “Religious Tolerance Day.”

“The biblical passage that Pesach Sheni is based on demonstrates the Torah’s consideration for the needs of minorities and the ways that solutions are found for those who are left outside of the general structure of Jewish communal life,” says Susala Kay, a co-founder and co-steward of the JeWitch Collective. “We find inspiration in a model of religious leadership inclusive of those who are different.”

Past attendees including non-Jews and straight identified folks said they were moved and delighted by the experience.
